The Cup of Ireland 10 minute competition was held in April 2021, online. From new lifters to more experienced lifters, we had athletes who achieved rank, national records broken, goals achieved and personal bests smashed.

Based on the results, it’s clear that lockdown has failed miserably in it’s attempts to derail lifters’ training. There were more PBs than we can count, records that were surpassed, and rank numbers that were hit. The pain at home is as real as the pain on the platform! A few braved the stress of live lifting with a judge and scheduled timeslot…after over a year without a live comp, it was time to challenge those records or go for rank! Here are the official rank achievements and records broken:

  • Racibor Jaskiewicz – 8kg TALC, 72 reps (Y2)
  • Emma Kate Moran – 16kg biathlon (-68), 174 points (R1 + biathlon record)
  • Emma Kate Moran – 16kg TALC (-68), 75 reps (R1)
  • Jamie Davis – 20kg biathlon (-68), 130 points (CMS + biathlon record)

But live or video post, the quality of lifting hit a whole new level. We were blown away lift after lift. Here are a few of the highlights…Several lifters joined the 200+ club in snatch:

  • Maggie Duff – 16kg, 201 reps
  • Olivia Calahan – 16kg, 201 reps
  • Morgan Claffey – 24kg, 203 reps
  • Lance Hogle – 20kg, 202 reps

A couple lifters proved that records are there to be broken:

  • Pat Kelly – 24kg TALC (-95), 100 reps
  • Morgan Claffey – 24kg biathlon (-73), 181.5 points
  • Didier Bouic – 24kg TALC (-78), 88 reps
  • Steve Killeen – 28kg TALC (-85), 62 reps
  • Nancy Flexman – 8kg biathlon (vet65+) = 216 points
  • Corina Lonergan – 16kg biathlon (vet45-49) = 163 points
  • Marie O’Donovan – 16kg biathlon (+68) = 230 points
  • Mary Burke – 16kg TALC (-63), 75 reps

One thought snatch was too easy, so with his superhuman strength and crazy determination, he decided to do the entire 10min on one arm:

  • Patrick Fogarty – 12kg snatch, 182 reps

And others hit their rank numbers for funzies:

  • Alice Walsh – 8kg snatch, 141 reps (Y2)
  • Alice Walsh – 8kg OALC, 115 reps (Y2)
  • Patrick Holden – 12kg biathlon, 228.5 points (Y1)
